Healing clays are staples in our home. An inexpensive and natural remedy, healing clays such as Bentonite have many internal and external healing benefits for the whole family — including pets!
What is Bentonite Clay?
One of the most effective and powerful healing clays, Bentonite is composed of aged volcanic ash and has a large and varied mineral content including silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, and potassium which have been used for ages by many cultures for detoxification.
How it Works
Bentonite Clay has a unique ability to produce an “electrical charge” when hydrated. When it is mixed with fluid, its electrical components change and stretched open like a highly porous sponge giving it the ability to absorb and remove toxins such as heavy metals, pathogenic viruses, herbicides, pesticides, free radicals and radiation into these spaces which are then bound through electrical attraction. The bentonite is eventually eliminated from the body with the toxins bound to its extremely minute rectangular particles and surfaces.
Uses of Bentonite Clay
- Face Mask. For smooth and radiant skin, make a paste using equal parts bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar. Mix and apply a thin layer to your face. Leave it on until it dries and rinse with tepid water. If desired, soak a cotton round in witch hazel and apply your favorite moisturizer.
- Skin Irritations. Apply a paste of bentonite clay and water topically to blemishes, eczema, psoriasis, chicken pox, etc. Leave on until it dries and rinse with tepid water. For more severe issues such as bites, burns, cuts and stings, you can create a poultice by putting a thick layer of clay on the skin and applying a wet gauze or cloth over it. Wrap the affected area and leave the poultice on changing it every 2 hours.
- Mouth Rinse. Mix 1/2 teaspoon Bentonite with 1/4 cup water to create an alkalizing and toxin-removing mouth rinse. It can also be used to make a remineralizing toothpaste.
- Detox Bath. Add 1/4 cup Bentonite Clay to a bath for a relaxing detox bath that softens and smooths the skin.
- Plugged Ducts & Mastitis: Create a poultice or mask using equal parts Bentonite Clay and water and apply externally to the affected area. Repeat every hour as needed.
- Baby Powder: Plain Bentonite Clay makes a very soothing baby powder for use when there is infection or redness. It can also be made into a clay mask to help speed recovery in this area.
- Morning Sickness: Adding 1/2 tsp of Bentonite Clay to water may help to ward off morning sickness.
- Internal Cleansing: To improve digestion and increase energy, try adding 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp of Bentonite Clay to water and drink daily.
