Discovering handmade and upcycled treasures on Etsy is a favorite pastime of mine! Keiki Love upcycled wool diaper covers first caught my eye because they are adorable. They also happen to be very well-made. Two full layers of 100% lamb’s wool give ultimate leak protection, but still allow breathability and help keep rashes away. They come in one size and fit most infants and toddlers from 10-35 pounds. The covers have a snap down rise with 3 different size options to grow with baby. The elastic legs and back keep messes in and give baby freedom to move around and play.

These diaper covers can be used with any prefold, flat, fitted or insert/soaker. By using cloth diapers your family can save up to $2,000 from birth to potty training. They are also renewable, reusable and recyclable. Did you know approximately 18 billion diapers are put into landfills annually and take around 500 years to biodegrade? For more information on cloth diapering, check out Real Diaper Association’s User’s Guide.

Benefits of wool diaper covers

  • Great for cool or warm weather since wool is the most breathable diaper cover.
  • Contains natural lanolin in the fibers which repel liquids other than water.
  • Absorbs up to 30% of its own weight in moisture before it starts to feel damp.
  • Ideal for all night nursers or heavy wetters. Lanolize your covers and they will be leak proof.
  • Don’t leave marks on baby because they  are soft and stretchy.
  • Naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal.
  • Don’t get smelly like synthetics.

Washing & lanolizing wool diaper covers

  1. If there is poop on the cover, gently wash it with an olive oil bar soap prior to lanolizing.
  2. Melt 1/4 inch Lanolin in hot water.
  3. Add 1/2 capful of Eucalan wool wash to the hot water and mix well.
  4. Fill a sink or basin with tepid water, not too cold and not too hot.
  5. Place wool diaper cover in the sink or basin and gently push cover under the water. Soak for 15 minutes or longer.
  6. After soaking, gently squeeze out excess water, then roll between two towels to absorb more moisture.
  7. Air dry overnight or for about 24 hours.

Note: To wash without lanolizing, follow the same instructions but omit the lanolin.
